"Our hens produce around 63 million eggs a year, which are then marketed in various formats, in bulk or in 6, 10, 20 or 30 eggs in trays and boxes. We also produce and sell 4,500 liters of liquid egg products in the form of egg whites, yolks or mixes, and about 750,000 kg of powdered egg products every year", he told ZF Siro Lionello, President of the Eurovo Group, which includes the company Super Eggs Romania.
In 2015 the Italians' business reached almost €10 million, a turnover more than three times higher than the previous year, according to data published on the Finance Ministry website.
"2015 was a very productive year for us, with a substantial increase in sales, especially compared to 2014, the year Super Eggs started. The same trend was confirmed in 2016." Most of the eggs produced by Super Eggs Romania are sold in supermarkets or distributed nationwide to traditional retailers under Le Naturelle brand, while egg products, i.e. liquid and powdered eggs, are intended for
Romanian food industry and export, according to the company representative. "We export mainly liquid egg products, about 40% of our total production and about 65% of our production of powdered egg products", said Siro Lionello.
The company has 50 hen houses with a capacity of 820,000 heads. "We manage six sites in Brăila county, we have both a packing house and peeling and pasteurization facilities. We fully control the production chain."
All the investments the Italians have made so far locally have been made with their own capital, but the company's representatives do not rule out the possibility of attracting and using European funds for the company's development in the future. "We are moving towards the type of halls with alternative rearing systems, especially by investing in new structures (halls - ed.) on the ground and free range, according to market demand, which has become more and more attentive to animal welfare and environmental dynamics".
The biggest challenge is competition from imports from Poland, a country that manages to produce eggs at competitive prices, according to company representatives. The main problem encountered was competition from imported eggs. Poland charged prices in Romania below the lowest production cost. The repercussions are obvious: the market has fallen through price devaluation".
The company Super Eggs Romania started producing eggs at Brăila since 2014, attracted by the market potential, with Romanians consuming around 250 eggs per capita per year, compared to the European average of 230 eggs per capita, according to company representatives.
